Our Heritage

Our fleet of fully restored vintage Canadian Pacific Railway carriages were built between 1916 and 1931. The silver settings, brass fittings, burled tables, brocade chairs, wall paneling of Circassian walnut and bird’s eye maple imported from Russia, and open vestibules are the pinnacle of a bygone tradition of elegance. Subtly add all the modern amenities the discerning traveler would expect along with exceptional gourmet cuisine, fine wines and unsurpassed hospitality and service, and you are presented with the Royal Canadian Pacific.

Launched in 2000, our fleet consists of ten fully restored vintage (1916-1931) Canadian Pacific Railway business cars. European Royalty, Prime-Ministers, and Hollywood Celebrities have all been aboard these historic cars over the years. Royal Canadian Pacific is a luxury rail tour train based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and offers an all- inclusive rail experience through the Canadian Rockies; complete with fine cuisine, luxury onboard accommodation and dedicated hospitality service.


How old is the Royal Canadian Pacific?

The Royal Canadian Pacific was established in 2000 utilizing Canadian Pacific Railway business cars from the early 20th century. The cars, themselves were built in 1916 through 1931 have been all restored to their original splendor. Brass fittings, Circassian walnut paneling, burled tables brocade chairs, and open vestibules are the epitome of 1920’s rail travel romance. All modern conveniences have been subtly added for the comfort of our guests.


Where does the Royal Canadian Pacific travel?

Our excursions are focused in Western Canada and the Canadian Rockies. The Royal Canadian Pacific may be privately chartered for single or multi-day excursions.

We travel to eastern Canada at least once a year to participate in the CPR Holiday Train – a fund raiser for local food banks across Canada and the northern U.S. Canadian Pacific Railway is a network that extends over 14,000 miles, connecting the port city of Vancouver in Canada’s west and the Port of Montreal in the east with the heart of North America. The Royal Canadian Pacific travels over 35,000 miles on Canadian Pacific track each year.


Who travels on the Royal Canadian Pacific?

Guests of the Royal Canadian Pacific are generally eighteen years or older, although exceptions may be made in special circumstances (e.g. Private family charters). The Royal Canadian Pacific is also extensively used for individual and corporate private charter. Royalty, presidents, prime ministers and present day celebrities have all traveled on board the Royal Canadian Pacific business cars.


What makes the Royal Canadian Pacific such a special experience?

Heritage. The Royal Canadian Pacific story encompasses the history of Canada. Development of the national railroad united the east with the west and cemented the political nation of Canada. The rail cars that comprise the Royal Canadian Pacific were used by Canadian Pacific Railway executives as the network developed and carried some famous visitors to Canada such as Winston Churchill during the Quebec Conference, and Princess Elizabeth shortly before her Coronation.

Hospitality. Offering friendly, yet professional service, Royal Canadian Pacific focus is anticipating our guests every need. Our culinary team consistently transcends the epicurean expectations of even the most discerning palate. With exceptional food and beverage service, product and area knowledge, and a desire to exceed expectations, our hospitality attendants make sure that the guest experience is unparalleled.

Location. One of the world’s most anticipated destinations, the spectacular vistas and unique wildlife of the Canadian Rockies speak for themselves. Most excursions travel through Banff and Lake Louise, with a choice of turning south and traveling through the Columbia Valley to Crowsnest Pass and back to Calgary, or west to the port city of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Exclusivity. The Royal Canadian Pacific carries a maximum of 30 guests on any trip. Guests stay on- board the train in 18 staterooms, each with private en-suite. Activities are arranged specifically for Royal Canadian Pacific groups. Private charters are fully customized to the client including, but not limited to, excursion routing, activities, and menus.


How much does it cost to charter the Royal Canadian Pacific?

The Royal Canadian Pacific can be chartered for Dinner trains starting at $35,000, Day trips start at $45,000 and multi-day excursions with overnight accommodations for up to 30 guests are $75,000 per (24 hour) day.

What is the Royal Canadian Pacific COVID-19 Response?

For the 2021 Season, all guests will be required to show proof of a COVID-19 Vaccine prior to Boarding. In order to protect our vintage trains, staff and guests, the Royal Canadian Pacific (RCP) is requiring that all passengers traveling with us (staff, contractors, suppliers and guests) have an officially recognized form of vaccination against the Covid-19 Virus. What is included and not included in your luxury Excursions?

Our exclusive luxury rail excursions include:

  • Airport transfers before and after your rail journey
  • Deluxe hotel accommodation the night before departure
  • A private stateroom with ensuite bath in a luxuriously appointed fully restored historic rail carriage
  • All meals, beverages and full bar service throughout your rail journey
  • Transportation to and from our off-train activities
  • Admission to all off-train activities, including food and beverage where applicable

Our excursions do not include:

  • Airfare
  • Tour Cancellation or medical insurance
  • Any travel agent or booking fees
  • Items purchased for your personal use
  • Extra tours or activities you choose to do on your own
  • Gratuities

What is included and not included in your Private Charter?

Chartering the Royal Canadian Pacific is a fully customized bespoke experience. You as the client will be able to make choices for your guests on route, itinerary and activities off the train. As such, anything not on the train will be charged at cost and billed at the end of the excursion, to allow for last minute additions. Our private charters include:

  • Full private access for you and your guests throughout the train (not including staff areas)
  • Private staterooms for you and your guests with ensuite bath in our luxuriously appointed fully restored historic rail carriages
  • Our culinary team will work with you to plan customized menus for you, and our hospitality team will pair wines to complement the menus. All beverages and full bar service throughout your rail journey are also included
  • A dedicated hospitality staff member will work with you to plan every detail of your excursion and will be your hospitality manager onboard the train.

Our excursions do not include:

  • Airfare
  • Tour Cancellation or medical insurance
  • Any travel agent or booking fees
  • Items purchased for your personal use
